upcoming events and trips!!

One of my favorite things about  being a part of the THESIS family are all the fun opportunities provided for our homeschool kiddos! Kids learn so much by getting out, traveling, and experiencing God's creation! We realize though, just because something fun is offered certainly doesn't mean EVERYTHING is going to fit into your schedule or be of interest to your family. However, we'd love for you to consider some of the fun trips and events going on in September! Hope to see you there!

Field Trip: The Golden Horseshoe

Join us on Thursday, September 17th for our field trip to The Golden Horseshoe musical at the Met Theater in Morgantown.

The musical Golden Horseshoe uses the test to tell a story that celebrates West Virginia's history and heritage.

Wes, an eighth grader, is struggling with the test prep, and his Dad steps in to help him study. At first they fight—they've been distant the past two months while Dad has mourned the loss of his own father. But soon, Dad sparks Wes's imagination, using Wes's crush on his classmate Rosie to motivate him. Dad, Wes, and Rosie, along with an ensemble of two men and two women, visit and reenact several important moments in West Virginia's history, meeting John Brown, Stonewall Jackson, and even Abraham Lincoln along the way. They learn about the Civil War, the Hatfields and McCoys, and the labor strife between mine owners and coal miners.

Golden Horseshoe is about West Virginia's history, but more than that, it's about fathers and sons—and mothers and daughters—and how we pass down West Virginia's heritage from one generation to the next. It celebrates West Virginia's first 150 years, and it looks forward to even more wild and wonderful years to come.

Box Tops for Education Coordinator needed!

THESIS is in need of a Box Tops for Education Coordinator for this year.  Through this program THESIS has earned money every year to help pay for things like gym equipment, field trip subsidies, and testing scholarships.
What would you have to do?  Be willing to gather the Box Tops that folks bring in, count them and maybe trim them, and send them in twice a year.  The group then receives a check to spend as we need.

If you think this little duty could be for you, please let me know and I can help get you started!

Warmly,
Liz, for THESIS

Calling All Teachers...

Hello Dear THESIS Families,

I hope you are all outside today enjoying the sunshine!  My garden tomatoes are, I am sure!

Not to take away from that summer feeling, but if you would take a minute to read this message and think ahead to serving at THESIS this year, we can together get our co-op year off to a smooth start!

Art :  THANK YOU to those who are responding to the call for art teachers!  Having taught art a few times, I can attest to the satisfaction and fulfillment the children and the teacher experience through art participation.  We are still in need of an art teacher for the Kindergarten class.

Gym:  Gym teacher slots exist for Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade.  Want to volunteer, but never taught gym before?  Miranda Shields (3rd grade gym) has offered to co-teach with you, or just help you get started with ideas and equipment.

General Electives:  Openings exist for Second Grade and Third Grade.  Need an idea?  What about games from other cultures?  Critical thinking and problem solving?  THESIS already owns music stands, math balances, and Song School Latin curriculum if you are interested in using those material for a class.  Or suggest your own class idea!

Events:  In order to continue with traditions such as Historical Thanksgiving Feast, Talent Show, World Culture Fair, Science Fair, and  Field Day, coordinator parents will be needed to head up the planning and execution of these events this year.  If a family or pair of families want to team up on any of these, get in touch!

Can't wait to hear from you!  It is going to be a good year!

THESIS registration is planned for Tuesday, August 18 at 12-2 for returning families, and 2 pm for new families.

Warmly,
Liz & Heather, for THESIS

Don't Forget!

Remember that assessments are to be made available to your county superintendent, postmarked by June 30th.

Please protect our homeschooling liberties by obeying the law. If you are not obeying the code for the homeschool exemption, you could be found truant.

If you send the results by certified mail with return receipt, you will have a record of doing your part to get the results into the county official's hands. This is highly recommended. For your convenience, you may want to consider sending in your letter of intent for next year with your assessment results.
